A digital stamp replaces a physical stamp with a code written on the envelope. Use it only for an eligible item and follow the in-app addressing and code instructions exactly.
An Post sells digital stamps through its app for eligible domestic mail. The purchase produces a code that you write in the position shown by An Post; it is not a printable parcel label or a reusable account credit.
Buy through the official An Post app
Use one code for the item it was bought for
Keep the purchase confirmation until delivery
Check the item first
Digital-stamp eligibility depends on the service and mail format offered in the app. Measure the packed envelope and use Click & Post or a post office if the item is too large, needs customs data, or needs a different service.
Measure after sealing
Do not treat a bulky packet as a letter
Use a tracked service when proof matters
Write the code clearly
Copy every character exactly, use a dark pen, and leave the code unobstructed. A mistyped, faint, covered, or reused code can prevent automated processing, so compare it with the app before posting.
Use block capitals where shown
Keep tape and decoration away from the code
Write the full delivery address and Eircode
When another option is better
Choose a physical stamp for simple counter purchases, Click & Post for labels and customs declarations, or tracked and registered services when you need shipment events or formal proof. A digital stamp does not itself turn ordinary letter post into tracked post.
Digital code: eligible everyday mail
Click & Post: labels and broader service choice
Registered or tracked service: evidence of posting and delivery
How to get it right
Check the format: Confirm that the packed item is eligible for the digital-stamp option shown in the An Post app.
Buy once: Purchase the digital stamp in the official app and retain the confirmation.
Address the item: Write the complete address and Eircode where available.
Copy and verify: Write the code exactly as instructed, compare every character, then post through an accepted channel.
