Irish address format with Eircode

Write Irish addresses clearly so An Post and courier sortation systems can read them.

Basic format

A clear Irish address normally includes recipient, building or street, locality or townland where relevant, county or Dublin postal district where relevant, and the Eircode.

Use clear block capitals when handwriting
Avoid punctuation, italics and underlining
Keep the Eircode easy to read

Where the Eircode goes

An Post says the Eircode should be the last line for mail generated in Ireland and the second-last line for mail from outside Ireland, with Ireland on the final line.

Why Eircode matters

Eircode is Ireland's seven-character postcode system. It helps identify a unique residential or business postal address, which is important because many Irish properties share similar addresses.
